Morning everyone,

Sad news this week for DEX. Our fantastic CEO Claire Baldwin is leaving us to take on a new role at Manchester Deaf Centre. Her last working day is this Thursday.

In the 3 years Claire has worked for DEX she’s achieved so much it’s hard to put into words! Here are some key highlights:

Coordinated DEX’s name change and branding update

Revolutionised the way we work behind the scenes, bringing in new technology, equipment and software, as well as moving staff on to employment contracts and expanding the staff team

Secured our office base at Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People

Set up a volunteer programme for our DDYC members

Coordinated a popular schools away day for deaf 11-17 year olds in West Yorkshire, where nearly 50 deaf young people had a fantastic time at Bradley Wood Activity Centre

Fundraised over £370k meaning we can continue to run our deaf youth programmes and ensure they’re all deaf led

…….and much more!

As a deaf person herself, Claire is incredibly passionate about supporting deaf young people to achieve their goals. She will be hugely missed, but we wish her all the best of luck in her new role over the hills!

Claire said:

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to develop and grow my skills at DEX over the last 3 years. I have met many amazing people, and have loved working with a dedicated, passionate team of staff and volunteers. For me, the biggest achievement has been seeing deaf young people change their lives, grow in confidence and reach for their true potential. I wish everyone at DEX the very best for the future, and hope to stay in touch from Manchester.”
