DEX at Leeds Festival 2026 🎪

Our team and volunteers had a fantastic time volunteering at Leeds Festival 2026!

It was a great opportunity to work alongside others, gain new skills and experience festival life while supporting the event. Our volunteers got involved, met new people and represented DEX within the wider community.

We’re proud of everyone who took part and helped make it such a positive and memorable experience. 💙

Saving Deaf Young People’s Community, Culture and Language (SDYPCC)

SDYPCC is all about giving Deaf young people the opportunity to explore, celebrate and share their Deaf identity, history and culture in a fun and accessible way.

We explore Deaf history, our identity and our language through fun workshops, creative activities, trips, group sessions and opportunities to meet other Deaf young people. We also work together to create BSL content, share Deaf stories and record our experiences in our own way, helping to make sure Deaf young people’s voices are heard.

The project gives young people the chance to learn about the people, events and achievements that have helped shape Deaf communities today. We look at how BSL and Deaf culture have developed, the challenges Deaf people have faced, and the importance of protecting our language and community for future generations.

It’s also about making friends, building confidence and feeling proud to be Deaf. Many Deaf young people have limited opportunities to meet other Deaf people or learn about their own culture. SDYPCC creates a safe, welcoming space where young people can be themselves, communicate in BSL and feel part of a community.

Most importantly, we want Deaf young people to have a voice in what happens next. Their experiences, ideas and stories are an important part of Deaf history too.

Together, we are helping to keep BSL, Deaf culture and Deaf stories strong for the future – while learning, creating, making friends and having lots of fun along the way! 💙

Our Residentials

Our residentials give Deaf young people the chance to get away, try something new and make memories together. They are a great opportunity to spend time with other Deaf young people, build friendships and enjoy new experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

From outdoor activities and adventure challenges to team games, creative activities and group trips, there is always something to get involved in. Young people are encouraged to try new things, support each other and step outside their comfort zone – whether that means taking on a new challenge or simply enjoying time away with friends.

Our residentials are also about developing confidence, independence and life skills. Young people have opportunities to make choices, work as a team, take responsibility and learn that they can achieve things they may not have thought possible.

As a Deaf-led organisation, we make sure communication is accessible throughout the residential. BSL is at the heart of what we do, and we plan activities so that everyone can participate, communicate and feel included, whatever their age, experience or individual needs.

Most importantly, our residentials provide a space where Deaf young people can be themselves, connect with others, have fun and feel part of a Deaf community.

It’s about independence, friendship, adventure and creating amazing memories together! 💙
